Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injection of botulinum toxin. It has cosmetic and medical uses. It can treat migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) but is most commonly prescribed to smooth wrinkles, fine lines, and other skin imperfections.

After Marina injects small amounts of Botox into specific areas of your face, the toxin blocks nerve signals from reaching your muscles. This causes your muscles to relax, making your skin look younger and smoother.

What cosmetic concerns does Botox treat?

At Regenerative Services, Marina uses Botox to treat various cosmetic issues, including:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet (small wrinkles around the eyes)
  • Bunny lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)
  • Chin dimpling
  • Fine lines

If you have a square jawline, Botox can be used to soften it.

Am I a candidate for Botox?

Marina reviews your medical records, asks about your treatment goals, and examines your face to determine if you’re a Botox candidate.

Tell her about any medications and supplements you take. Some drugs, including blood thinners, raise the risk of bruising and swelling at the injection site. Alcohol can cause redness and bruising, so avoid drinking for at least 24 hours before your procedure.

What happens during Botox treatment?

Botox is a quick outpatient procedure.

Before administering the injections, Marina washes your face and marks the injection sites with a pen. She applies a topical numbing cream to your skin to ensure your comfort.

Once the numbing cream sets in, Marina injects the Botox into specific areas, like your forehead or between your eyebrows. You might feel a slight pinch when the needle pierces your skin, but it shouldn’t be painful. Tell Marina if anything becomes uncomfortable.

After Marina finishes the Botox injections, she provides care instructions. Don’t rub the injection sites for at least 12 hours. This allows the swelling, bruising, and redness to subside. Don’t lie down for at least four hours, as the Botox can move into other areas. Also, avoid strenuous activities of any kind for at least a day.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

The effects of Botox usually last three to four months.* Maintenance injections can keep your skin looking smooth and youthful. Marina monitors your results at regular checkups and administers new injections as needed.
